How to Use

Intended use:

The Laprostop® is intended to help control trocar insertion depth and provide greater stability during procedures.

The Laprostop system consists of three parts, the base, collet and wing nut. The Laprostop is available in 6 sizes: 3mm, 5mm, 6mm, 10-11mm, 12mm and 15mm. They are color coded for ease of identification: 3mm/beige, 5mm/dark blue, 6mm light blue, 10-11mm yellow, 12mm/purple and 15mm/green. The base has three suture ports and an adhesive backing for attaching the base to the patients skin.

Steps:

  1. Slide the assembled Laprostop over the cannula (2) of the trocar (5). The position of the Laprostop on the cannula (2) should be determined by the surgeon. The flange (3) end of the Laprostop should be closest to the cutting blade of the trocar (4). The Wing Nut (6) should be toward the handle of the trocar.
  2. Holding the base (3) with one hand, tighten the wing nut (6) of the Laprostop by hand until firm resistance is met.
  3. Check the security of the Laprostop by applying force to the flange (3) in the direction of the arrows. The Laprostop should not move along the cannula (2).
  4. Check the security of the Laprostop by applying force to the flange (3) in the direction of the arrows. The Laprostop should not move along the cannula (2).
  5. If the Laprostop moves along the cannula, repeat steps 3 and 4 until movement of the cannula is no longer detected.
  6. Warning: If there is any movement of the Laprostop when force is applied after repeating steps 3 and 4, do not use the Laprostop on that trocar.
  7. For greater stability during the surgical procedure the base can be sutured to the patients skin through the suture ports or adhered to the patients skin by removing the wax paper backing and using the pressure sensitive adhesive.

The Laprostop is a single use device. When the surgical procedure is completed, dispose of all the components of the Laprostop as medical waste. Do not re-sterilize.
